John 3: 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
Pentecost is probably one of my favorite times of year. It was originally a Jewish harvest festival and celebration of the giving of the Law. But in the Christian era more associated with the giving of the Holy Spirit to the disciples.
I have chosen to think about the promise of the Spirit for a few days.
A description of the Sprit is wind; now it seems to me that is describes him well.
1. He, like the wind cannot be seen, only the affect of his presence.
2. He, like the wind cannot be contained or controlled.
3. He, like the wind goes where he wants to go and depending on His mood can be cooling, refreshing, bracing or devastating.
The opportunity this Pentecost is for a fresh blow of God’s Spirit, I guess the question is how would you prefer him to come?
One word of caution, like the wind, the effects of the Spirit’s moving can be reproduced artificially, but rarely to good effect, and never to the benefit of the Church.
